Festivals and Events in Maasin City: A Year-Round Guide

Maasin City loves a celebration. Its calendar mixes deep religious traditions with lively community events, and timing your visit around a festival is a great way to experience local culture.

Padul-ong Festival (August)

The city’s signature celebration honours Our Lady of the Assumption, Maasin’s patroness, around the 15th of August. “Padul-ong” refers to the ceremonial bringing or accompanying of the patroness’s image, and the fiesta season fills the city with processions, street dancing, food and community festivities.

Holy Week

As a diocesan seat, Maasin observes Holy Week with special devotion. The Monte Cueva Shrine and the Cathedral of the Assumption draw pilgrims for Visita Iglesia and Lenten rites.

Barangay fiestas

Throughout the year, individual barangays hold their own patron-saint fiestas, complete with Masses, games and shared feasts. Ask locals — you may be warmly invited to join.

Christmas and New Year

The holiday season brings lights, lantern displays, dawn Masses (Simbang Gabi) and a festive buzz across the city.
